Not a day goes by that I don’t realize I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at screens, screens which ostensibly have other people connected to them, looking at screens of their own. You work in front of a screen, you might relax in front of a screen, you plan vacations and communicate with loved ones, frequently, in front of a screen. And now more than ever, you do your banking at home or on the go, in front of a cold, glowing screen.

The Lithuanian company ETRONIKA has developed a Microsoft Kinect-based online banking application that recognizes your face and voice to log in to your account and lets you control options with gestures.

We still don’t have hoverboards, but the future as depicted by Hollywood is always inching closer to reality. A Lithuanian tech firm, Etronika, recently developed a beta version of a banking application that syncs with Microsoft’s Kinect, a motion-sensing device that is typically used to make video games more physically interactive. Soon, perhaps, you’ll be able to do your banking with the futuristic ease that Tom Cruise’s character in Minority Report did police work — but without that glove.

In the world of consumer electronics, we sometimes forget that cool things happen in other industries—electronic things. Last year, we introduced you to Etronika and the company’s new way to do electronic banking, using the Microsoft Kinect. Now the Lithuanian company has upgraded its technology, and debuted it to the public.

We touched on how the face of online banking might get more fun than usual thanks to Etronika, with the introduction of Kinect-based online banking, and while that was still a concept in October last year, times have certainly changed.

Having said that, I liked ETRONIKA and ValidSoft for bringing voice and gesture recognition to sign-on processes, ensuring a secure authentication.  Although many are sceptical about such services, they do make sense to me as biometric authentication using natural sign-on is going to be a big focus for finance in the future.

Well, you can now put them to good use, thanks to a new Kinect hack from Lithuania-based Etronika. The company's software, which made its debut at last week's CTIA E&A event, effectively brings motion-controlled banking directly to your living room. All you have to do is stand in front of your display, clap your hands to choose an icon, or wave your hand back and forth to navigate across the app's carousel menu.

We've seen so many ingenious Kinect hacks ranging from something that can save lives to something that's done purely for fun. Add this one to the ever-growing list: motion-control banking. Developed by Lithuanian software company Etronika, the Kinect-based banking user interface lets you access and manage your accounts with hand gestures or even the wagging of your dog's tail.

Kinect is finally making its place in business world and is not just limited to playing games with Xbox. Etronika, who builds innovative software solution for Banks ,  has built a Kinect-Based Application which lets  Customer access their bank accounts and pay bills using Gestures, which looks very similar to What Xbox upcoming  Metro Dashboard Update.

It seems someone's finally producing Kinect content for the hardcore bill-payers, not just the casual ones.

Etronika hopes to be able to sell this technology to banks soon, but Microsoft still doesn’t allow commercial products based off of Kinect to be sold. Microsoft plans to allow commercial use of the Kinect in the near future.

In a world of dreary economic times, where people dread paying their bills every month, there is a bright spot to look forward to. Because now, with the help of an enterprising company from Lithuania and a SDK from Microsoft, paying those monthly fees can be done using your Kinect unit for the Xbox 360. (Cue the puzzled looks and stifled laughter).
